Auxiliary Pilots Receive Special SAR Training from USCG

U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary pilots Frank Tangel, Augie Miller, Mark Sherman, John Friedlander, and Graham
Roberts, all of Air Flotilla 10-20 1SR, Caldwell, NJ received advanced Search and Rescue
training at the US Coast Guard Air in Station Elizabeth City, NC. The airmen attended
classroom instruction, followed by a complete Search and Rescue exercise over the Atlantic
Ocean. As part of the exercise, Tangel was tethered into a C-130 aircraft while deploying
life rafts and pumps to a drill boat below.
The Caldwell Air Flotilla assists the Coast Guard in finding boaters in distress on the Hudson River and
portions of the Atlantic Ocean. All Auxiliary pilots are volunteers and fly their own
