“I am not sure if you are aware, but the State of New Jersey regularly honors veterans with a variety of medals presented at public ceremonies. I received two medals a few months ago — one for Vietnam Service and the other a Distinguished
Service Medal. Veterans can apply for similar medals online, regardless of when they served. Go to the website below for more information.”

The Boat Crew program is a challenging program, and these members are to be congratulated for putting in the time and effort. Additionally, Judi DiMaio, along with Coxswains Steve Ackerman and John Antonnaccio recieved the Auxiliary Operational Excellence “E” Program Ribbon for Excellence as a Boat Crew Team. Bravo Zulu!

CG 6505 Family Support
The Coast Guard Foundation has established a "Family Disaster Relief Fund" to provide emergency assistance to the families
of the CG HELO 6505 crewmembers who were killed on the evening of 04-September when their CG helicopter crashed during
a training mission in Hawaii. Commander Thomas Nelson, Lieutenant Commander Andrew Wischmeier, Aviation Survival Technician
First Class David Skimin, and Aviation Maintenance Technician Second Class Joshua Nichols made the ultimate sacrifice while
serving their country. Contribution information follows below for the three different ways to contribute.
The Coast Guard Foundation was founded in 1969 to provide funds for the needs of the Coast Guard Academy and its cadets
that are not covered by federal operational funding. In 1986, the foundation expanded its operations to all Coast Guard
members and their families.
- To make a secure donation to the Family Disaster Relief Fund, please go to http://www.cgfdn.org/contributeform.php.

Guard members who perish in the line of duty, please go to http://www.cgfdn.org/contributeform.php. Select, "CGF Scholarships" if

- Mail-in contributions may also be sent to the Coast Guard Foundation Office at 394 Taugwonk Road, Stonington, CT 06378.
Please make reference on the memo line or include a note indicating the fund to which your gift will be directed.
This incident serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers our CG heroes face every day and why the Foundation does
what it does to serve and support them and their families. Please keep the crew, their families and the entire Coast Guard
in your thoughts and prayers. Semper Paratus.
Elizabeth D. Young, CDR, USCG
Webmaster note: Commander Nelson had been stationed at CGAS Brooklyn. Some of our AuxAir members may have crossed paths with him during his seervice there.
Update: Flotilla 10-20 donated $250.00 to the Family Relief Fund.
IS-210 Deadline Nears
Remember IS-210? That “other” ICS course that Pilots and Coxswains and Division Commanders, etc. will need to take? Well, it is here, and if you want to keep flying your plane or driving your boat, you need to take it before 31 March, 2009. Don't wait for a special “AuxAir” or 10-20 version. Take one as soon as you can. Class size is very limited, and if you sign up for a class (pre-registration is required), make sure you attend, or if something comes up, to notify the class coordinator. Classes will be announced on NETSKEDS, so keep an eye out there.
Because this is a requirement for Pilots (and trainee pilots), Coxswains, Division Commanders and other, they will be given priority for the limited number of class seats. Observers, AirCrew, Boat Crew, and others please refrain from registering for a class unless the class needs to fill seats. After the deadline passes in March, feel free to register for any IS-210 class. We encourage everyone to take this training.

The emphasis was on Maritime Domain Awareness and America's Waterway Watch. Spring Fly-In
On June second and third, "our" Air Station, CG Air Station Cape Cod hosted all District 1 Auxiliarists for a fly-in and workshop and fellowship meeting.
We also bid a fond farewell to Commander Tom Maine, and Lieutenant Dave Aldous as they are on their way very soon to new assignments. We also met
our new Auxiliary Liaison, Lieutenant Phil Thisse.
As a way of saying thanks to the AuxAir members, LT. Aldous conducted a raffle for a plane wash, the washing to be done by LTs Aldous and Thisse. The winner was 10-20's own Bob Ewing, and N876EE! Here is a photo of our Aux LIaisons hard at work on Bob's plane.
