Awards & recognition

Awards and recognition are the only "paycheck" we Auxiliarists receive for our hard work and labors. It is only proper that we recognize our members who have attained a hard-earned qualification, passed their last specialty exam, or reached some other milestone in their Auxiliary career.

And don't forget — if your monthly postcard or letter has one or more red stars on it, we may be holding an award just like one of these for you!

In addition to harbor patrols, First Southern Auxiliarists provided14,354 hours of critical support including communications watch standing, dockside line handling and safety observers as well as administrative and food service support at Activities New York, Station Sandy Hook, Station King's Point, and Military Ocean Terminal, Bayonne.

The dedication, pride and professionalism displayed by First Southern Region Republican National Convention Operations and Support Team reflects great credit upon themselves, their team, the United States COast Guard, and the United Stated Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Bing Kearsley recieved a certificate and wings tonight for designation as an Auxiliary Aircrew crewmwmber.

The Aircrew qualification is an advanced qualification which Air Observers can attain. There is more training in flight operations, and aircraft oerations, and the Auxiliary Aircrew mwmber is expected to assist the pilot in times of high workload, operating radios, watching instruments, plotting courses, as the pilot in command directs. Aircrew status can be attained by any qualified observer. Air Observers who hold a current pilot certificate and current medical can be upgraded to Aircrew quickly, as the training for Aircrew is a subset of that a private pilot must have.

Qualifications for Aircrew include: Holding an FAA third-class or higher medical, or physician's statement that you meet certain medical standards (mostly the same as the FAA 3rd class medical); successfully completing the Aircrew syllabus and approval of a flight examiner.
